How we work
We start with a review where you brief us on the scope of the project, your needs, wants, and desired outcomes. Then together we set out a plan to deliver on those outcomes.
This graphic gives an overview of the steps a catheter design and development project might move through. Some customers will contract us for the whole design journey and some will contract us for a prototype, while others will bring us in for one or two elements depending on their needs. Our agile and flexible approach means we can work with you no matter how little or how much you need us to do.

Come to us with an embryonic idea or a full specification and together we can take it forward. Based on your requirements and needs we can go straight to Prototyping or enter the Design & Development process.
Accelerate
Review
Collate the data and learnings and review together with the customer. Define our options for improvement and inputs into future concept specification and prototype iterations. Either the review will feed into our next concept design iteration or we will have enough data and confidence to move to the next phase of your product development.
Plan/Spec
Discuss the approach, set the targets and define the deliverables. Develop the specification for the concept(s) including design, raw materials, prototype build and testing against the targeted performance requirements.
Build
Construct and build the concept(s) using our internal expertise and capabilities.
Test
Inspect and challenge the performance of the concept against its targeted requirements, stress the concept to understand its robustness, evaluate the data and develop conclusions.
In the Design Loop your idea is translated to a concept and that concept is planned designed, built, and tested.
The Development phase is where your product is evolved from the design select into a commercial product. We journey with you through the product lifecycle: Design Realisation – Design Validation – Manufacturing.
Your concept is fine-tuned, improved and optimised with a view to achieving Design Freeze. We look at the total solution for your product in the context of the overall system, including DFx (design for x) and more specifically DFM.
We work proactively in aiding you to meet your V&V milestones: e.g. CE marking, FDA approval or approval for a clinical study. We support your design control requirements, generate DV protocols, execute testing and complete reports.
Making sure your product is manufacturable and scale ready. We manufacture low-volume builds during DV and clinical trials and early stages, and we expand and scale with you as your product enjoys success in the field.
We have the flexibility to work closely with you at pilot manufacturing stage when demand is unpredictable and to retain that close relationship as you scale and your product becomes more successful in the market.
We know that the most valuable asset for MedTech start-ups and SMEs is their innovative Intellectual Property (IP). We have developed and adhere to strict processes when working with new and existing customers to preserve the confidentiality of their information and IP. We are acutely aware of the significance and importance of IP, and we treat it with the utmost respect to ensure our customers’ interests are protected.

We’ll design, assess, critique, challenge and redesign based on its ability to meet its clinical requirements and its suitability to be successful in the market.
We can be your catheter prototyping arm, providing custom-built prototypes supported by our expertise in device design, our DFM and our capability for fast-turn high quality prototyping. Our prototyping helping you to reach your milestones.
We can be your catheter manufacturing arm; from pilot manufacturing of components, complex sub-assemblies and full devices, right up to supplying packaged and sealed products in volume from our cleanroom facility.
The Covid pandemic presented a profoundly serious challenge and a threat to a lot of industries and companies, including ICS and much of its customer base. In response, we have been amazed by how quickly we have seen so many companies adapt their processes, and thrive in the new landscape they find themselves in.
At ICS, our aim was to keep providing the highest standards of service and output that our customers expect from us.
